I recently attended an online Toastmasters meeting with a theme related to "hats". I was apprehensive at first because it seemed such an odd choice of theme to me. Was the meeting going to be about what I considered to be fashion accessories?
As it turns out, there is a lot to talk about because hats are a fascinating subject. We don't wear them much nowadays, but throughout history they have an essential item of clothing for most people.
Think of how many proverbs and expressions there are relating to hats:
- hat trick
- old hat
- mad as a hatter
- talking through your hat
- eating your hat
- if the hat fits, wear it.
- ..
This is just a small selection. The list goes on and on.
