Speech Timer: Rehearse with Confidence
Our free speech timer uses the same green, amber and red “traffic light” idea used by Toastmasters and many speaking clubs. Set your time limit, press start, and rehearse—so when the big day comes, you can forget about the clock.
What Are Timer Lights?
If you’ve never seen them before: a green light means you’re within your target time; amber means you’re in the “wrap up” zone; red means you’re over time. They work like traffic lights—easy to read at a glance so you can focus on your words, not the clock. Many clubs use physical or on-screen versions of these lights to keep speeches on time. Our timer brings that same, familiar system to your wedding speech practice.
For Rehearsal, Not the Big Night
These lights are meant for the rehearsal phase while you’re getting used to delivering your speech and nailing your pacing. You can use the timer on the night if you want, but we don’t recommend it. If you prepare with timing in mind during practice, you won’t have to worry about it on the day. Rehearse with the lights; then step up and speak with confidence.
How the Timer Works
You choose a preset (e.g. 2–3–4 minutes) or set custom green, amber and red times. The screen shows which “light” you’re on as a coloured background and how much time you have left until the next one (using a different shape, part of our colourblind mode).
Green
You’re within your target time. Plenty of room to deliver your speech at a comfortable pace.
Amber
Time to start wrapping up. Begin your closing so you finish before the red light.
Red
You’re over your allotted time. In rehearsal, this helps you see where to trim or speed up.
